The Nationals are not “holding the government ransom” when it comes to their deliberations on a net zero by 2050 emissions target, says Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce.
The party is yet to make a decision regarding the Prime Minister’s push for Australia to adopt the target ahead of the COP206 Climate Change Conference despite holding a four-hour party room meeting on Sunday.
“We will be absolutely diligent … the Nationals are not … rolling over,” Mr Joyce told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“We will come forward with something that represents not so much just our own personal views, but the views of the people who sent us here to Canberra.”
