For this episode I knew I wanted to tell the tragic story of the Battle of Mohács. But I didn’t know where I wanted to tell it! So I went down to Déli Pályaudvar in Budapest and simply picked the next train to leave. My destination ended up being Székesfehérvár! The city of Kings!

Our story picks up from where we left off last time. Following the execution of Dózsa György, the Hungarian nobility CRACKED DOWN on the peasantry, a process which continued to weaken the foundation of the Hungarian state. Making matters worse, the already weak king, Ulászló II, kicked the bucket in 1516 leaving the Hungarian realm in the hands of a 10 year old potato boy named Lajos.

Now in 1520, the man who would one day come to be known as Szuleiman the Magnificient takes over the Ottoman Empire. Though he was just plain old Szuleiman back then, he was hellbent on becoming, well, magnificent!!!
