Cincinnati Children’s We are looking at a recto-vestibular fistula, which is one of the most common malformations that we see in females. Here, the rectum opens in the posterior aspect of the vagina, called the vestibule. In this malformation, the anterior wall of the rectum and posterior wall of the vagina share a common wall. In order to separate the two, a plane must be created. This connection is often 2 - 3 centimeters in length. At this point, it is relatively easy to move the rectum into the appropriate position in the center of the anal sphincters, as seen in this demonstration. |
